UX for Installations

Installations are immersive, site-specific experiences that combine art, technology, and design to create a physical space people can explore or interact with. They tend to be digital, physical, or a combination of both.

Installations invite people into a world that tells a story or communicates a concept.

Installations include:

  • Museum exhibits

  • Public art pieces

  • Multi-sensory environments

Questions to Consider:

  • Who is the intended audience, and how might they interact with the space?

  • What story, emotion, or message do you want people to take away from the experience?

  • How do users move through the space, perceive information, and interact with tangible and digital objects?

  • How can you guide users’ attention?

  • What physical or sensory elements shape the experience?

  • How accessible is the experience?

  • What happens if someone interacts with your experience incorrectly or unexpectedly?
